a sparkling clean for your home exteriors.
How to Pressure Wash Like a Pro
Before You Begin:
Safety First: Wear protective gear like goggles, gloves, and long pants.
Read Your Machine's Manual: Understand your specific pressure washer's capabilities and safety precautions.
Test on an inconspicuous area to ensure the pressure and cleaning solution won't damage the surface.
1. Choose the Right Nozzle:
0° or Point Nozzle (Use with extreme caution): For tough cleaning stains on hard surfaces or to reach angles pr corners from a distance.
15° or "Stripping" Fan Nozzle: A good option for cleaning surfaces with some grime or for more focused cleaning power than a 25° nozzle.
25° or Fan Nozzle: A good all-purpose option for most surfaces.
40° or Wide Fan Nozzle: Ideal for delicate surfaces like windows or lightly soiled areas or to just simply wash down a surface without the need of a deep clean.
2. Pre-Soak the Surface:
Apply a cleaning solution suitable for the surface you're cleaning. Here's a breakdown of what happens on a molecular level:
Soaking loosens dirt: The cleaning solution disrupts the bond between dirt particles and the surface.
Emulsification: Oil-based dirt is broken down into smaller droplets, making it easier to rinse away.
Popular Pre-Soak Solutions:
Concrete and Driveways: Degreaser for oil stains, mildew remover for mold.
Siding: Household cleaner diluted with water, specific siding cleaner for stubborn stains.
Decks and Patios: Wood cleaner specifically formulated for your deck's material.
3. Pressure Cleaning:
Maintain a distance of 30-45 centimeters (approximately 12-18 inches) from the surface.
Use a sweeping motion, starting from the bottom and working your way up to avoid streaking.
Pro Tip: Start with a 40° nozzle for decks, especially if you're unsure about the wood's condition. You can gradually decrease the angle (use a 25° nozzle) for a more aggressive clean if necessary. Always be mindful of not exposing bare wood for extended periods.
Adjust the "Pounds per Square Inch" Pressure based on the surface:
High pressure ( 2000~4000 PSI): Concrete, stone, brick.
Medium pressure (1500~2000 PSI): Siding, patios.
Low pressure (less than 1000~1500 PSI): Decks, windows.
4. Post-Soak with Detergent (Optional):
For heavily soiled surfaces, consider a post-soak with a detergent solution after pressure washing. This can further loosen and remove stubborn dirt.
5. Rinse Thoroughly:
Use clean water to rinse away all cleaning solution and dirt residue.
Safety Tips:
Always wear protective gear: Goggles, gloves, gumboots and long moisture resistant pants are crucial when pressure washing.
Maintain a safe distance: Keep the surface cleaner flat on the surface and avoid directing the spray towards yourself or others.
Be mindful of surroundings: Be aware of nearby plants, pets, or electrical components and take necessary precautions.
Remember:
For heavily stained or delicate surfaces, consider professional help.
Start with a low pressure setting and gradually increase as needed.
Be mindful of nearby plants and cover them if necessary.
